Wireless Home Security System
Have you
ever considered going with a wireless home security system? Have you held off because you
just don’t think that wireless is going to cut it for you? Why go wireless? Why does anything go wireless?
Having a security system in your house is not a bad idea. The rate of crime is increasing all over, even in
so-called “nice” or “good” neighborhoods. Households everywhere are becoming more in tune with their need for
additional security. One option that many people are trying is wireless home security. Home security becomes even
more attractive if you have a lot of expensive possessions in your house or if there are unsupervised children
there after school.
Wired vs. A Wireless Home Security System
Almost all home security systems work relatively the same way. Sensors attach to the area you need to secure,
say a window or door, and usually to the surface adjacent to it as well. The sensors routinely have a circuit
flowing through them in a continuous loop; if the loop is broken (because someone opened the window or door); the
sensor sends a signal to the device which in turn sets off the security alarm. But with a wireless system, the
signal goes through the air. If you decide to use the hardwired installation, a conductor or line must be run from
every sensing device that is hooked up to the keypad. This is not only difficult to install for a
do-it-yourselfer, but cumbersome as well. Wireless home security is traditionally much more inconspicuous and can
usually blend in with just about any home décor.
What is it that worries you about a wireless system? Seriously, the chances that (as in the movies) a burglar is
going to be able to afford the equipment necessary to generate a radio signal that will jam up your wireless system
is slim to none. Unless of course you live in Fort Knox. Let’s just say they could though, for the sake of the
argument. What if your wireless security system could actually pick up the fact that someone was attempting to jam
your system, thereby triggering an alarm? How fun would that be? Well, guess what…that’s just what a wireless
system can do!
Crowning The Wireless Home Security System
Still not convinced? Summer's almost upon us and along with summer comes summer storms. Storms
ordinarily bring thunder and lightning, sometimes even tornadoes, occasionally knocking out power for miles… for
days. Now what? You’ve got the wired home security system. You should have listened when the guy at the store told
you that wireless is better. With a wired system, even if you have a backup battery, that battery will now be
required to support each and every sensor individually. That puts a huge drain on a battery. But with wireless,
each system has its own backup battery and will not be affected by power outages in the same manner that a wired
system would. The expense of the batteries is not a viable consideration due to the fact that they usually last
approximately two years or a little less. Your biggest problem is going to be who changes the batteries when
needed? Well, let’s see, who’s got the most expensive stuff in the house?
